Experts Warn These Four Morning Habits Can Lead To Hair Loss

Do you regularly hear about the importance of getting a good seven hours of sleep, taking off all your makeup before bed, applying retinol, and using moisturizer to maintain healthy skin? Those are all great tips, but what you do in the morning is equally important! We emphasize the importance of developing good nighttime habits for our health and appearance.

It doesn’t matter if you’re experiencing thinning hair or want it to be healthy. You can set yourself up for drier and more likely break hair if you make these most common mistakes when getting out of bed. Elaine F. Kung, a board-certified dermatologist, explains four bad morning habits.

Using Shampoo On Hair Strands

According to Dr Kung, hair strands may lose oils when you apply shampoo to strands, so shampoo may change the pH of hair fibres and remove dirt from the scalp. Dr Kung concluded that shampooing hair strands may damage hair cuticles and break fibres.

Not Using Hair Conditioner

Including conditioner in your morning haircare routine is essential, just like shampoo and peanut butter. A hair conditioner reduces friction between fibres, making hair easier to comb. Dr Kung said,  “hair conditioners minimize static electricity, make hair manageable, and temporarily mend split ends.”

Keeping Our Hair Warm When It Is Wet

Dr Kung warns that heat treatments on wet hair can damage strands chemically and structurally. The hair cuticle bubbles and buckles when heat is applied to wet hair.

After we wash our hair, we commonly groom it in the following ways:

  • Blow drying hair less than 15 cm away
  • The use of curling irons
  • The use of flat irons

Tightening Hairstyles

It’s hard to resist a ponytail, bun, or braid when you have little time to get ready. It can be costly to repeat these styles. Dr.Kung said that pulling on our hair repeatedly over an extended period can cause traction alopecia. “Traction alopecia is hair loss associated with tight ponytails, buns, and braids.”
