Perhaps the most well-known tenet of Amish life is the shunning of technology and the comforts of modern life. This lifestyle is governed by a philosophical and religious belief called Gelassenheit, which means “letting be.” The Amish believe that the earth should be left as closely to God’s original creation as possible.
