Even if you’re an experienced workout enthusiast or just starting, making time for exercise can feel like the last thing on your mind after a long day at work. Exercise can provide physical and mental health benefits no matter when you do it, but finding the motivation to get up and do it can be difficult.
Jessie Jones Williams, the personal trainer, tells The Independent said, “To be motivated, you need to have a solid understanding first about exactly your motivation. Make your workout positive by turning inward and coming up with reasons. It will help you affirm your reasons for exercising and provide motivation to start.”
Here are some tips from Jones Williams, Ian Scarrott, and Emma Vincent from PureGym on how to stay motivated to work out.
Do You Know How To Stay Motivated To Exercise And Work Out?
It’s a great way to stay motivated and find new ways to exercise if you set goals. Jones Williams said, “My best advice for staying motivated to work out is to remind yourself of your goals as much as possible and integrate this into your schedule.” Vincent suggests making a weekly plan, as seeing something visually can keep you accountable.
How Can You Motivate Yourself To Exercise If You Don’t Love It?
Scarrott suggests working out with friends or a group. “You can keep each other accountable and find fun in the process. “Try out classes; they are a great way to learn new exercises, exercise with others with similar goals, and meet new people.”
In The Long Run, How Can You Stay Motivated?
Despite exercising and eating a balanced diet, everyone hits a plateau. You can keep yourself motivated when you reach a plateau or don’t see results as quickly as you’d like.
In the meantime, Jones Williams suggests you remember your short-term goals.
What Can You Do When You Don’t Have Time?
We gained more time as a result of the pandemic. Working from home meant less time commuting, so we used that time however we wanted. Exercise can be hard to prioritize and carve out with workers returning to work or adopting the new hybrid model.
