With the Super Bowl coming up, there’s one thing that nearly everyone is looking forward to with the event, including those just not into sports. It’s the commercials that have become the greatest part of the event, as advertisers pay top dollar for the top draw of whatever they’re pitching. With such a prime place on television during a heavily-watched event, several companies put all they have into making the most notable and elaborate of ads.
With this comes plenty of movie trailers for upcoming films this year. Naturally, since the Super Bowl spot is such an expensive spot to acquire for air time, only the top studios with the biggest projects have placed their trailers front and center for the biggest draws. There are naturally a few expected big-budget blockbusters you can expect during the broadcast.
And since the anticipation of trailers has become itself a new form of marketing (yes, really), a lot of studios are getting viewers interested early in…their trailers…meant to get people interested…in seeing a movie. What a strange world we live in.
At any rate, here are some spots for the upcoming trailers of Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan, the video game based adventure film Sonic the Hedgehog and the survival horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II.
When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father. “Mulan” features a celebrated international cast that includes: Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin & Lauren Hynek based on the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.”
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden).
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
