Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Features 1st Model With A Visible C-Section Scar

A model with a visible C-section scar will appear in the 2022 issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit to honor motherhood in new ways.

On Wednesday, Kelly Hughes was announced as the brand’s latest model with a photo showing the mother pulling down her bathing suit bottoms to reveal her scar.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit captioned, “The FIRST woman to expose her C-Section scar in magazine’s history! Let’s acknowledge the power and beauty of motherhood and all the moms out there!”

Hughes’s feature results from Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s partnership with Frida Mom, a part of the #PayWithChange initiative aiming for more empowerment and inclusion for women.

Frida Mom wrote, “History made. Scratch that. Herstory made.” on Instagram.

Hughes also shared the photo on her Instagram to acknowledge the honor.

She wrote, “This partnership with @fridamom #paywithchange partnership to normalize and embrace the changes with a woman’s body, especially when becoming a mom is so amazing to be a part of.”

Hughes’s prominent feature follows returning model Katrina Scott, who became the first woman to appear in the magazine with visible pregnancy in its pages in the 2022 issue.

Scott wrote of her inclusion, “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has a storied history of firsts of breaking boundaries, building and restoring confidence, and speaking directly to all women in an empowering and inclusive voice. Today is such a special moment that I’m honored to be a part of.”

McGrady also appears among the mothers in this issue, having seemed to be several times before, but she returns just six months after giving birth to her first child.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit hopes to “shape a positive narrative about women’s bodies, especially for new mothers” by incorporating all three women.
