Social Media Challenge: Stop Comparing!

With social media being such a huge part our our generations’ every day lives, it’s basically a daily occurrence that you see people complaining about relationships, their lives, their jobs, the list really goes on and on. Posts that ask “why can’t I have a relationship like so and so” pictures of “cute” couples with “GOALS” written under it, people complaining about how much they hate their jobs and are unhappy, but would be totally fine with being able to do what that person is doing.
Why are we constantly looking for what our lives SHOULD be, what we SHOULD be doing daily, what our significant other SHOULD be doing? It’s as if we put so much of our lives into these still images that we literally know nothing about. You don’t know them, you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors – nor do they with you. We compare ourselves and our lives to every image we see on these social platforms, but guess what? No one ever wins when they compare. Maybe we should challenge ourselves to change what social media has created – and what we have created. If you want your life to be a certain way, then do it. Make it happen. If you want your relationship to work out, then love them and do what it takes. Stop looking to what everyone else does because that’s not always the way. Remember when our parents used to tell us to be ourselves and not care what others think? Seems like such an easy concept, in yet it is so hard for us to do. Why? Once we start actually doing what everyone looks up to celebrities and numerous authority figures for doing, maybe we will be happy with who we are and our lives. Perhaps once we change our mentality with things like this, we will have a healthier, happy life as we all should.
