On Thursday, Marvel Studios officially confirmed what many had suspected for a long while now by tweeting an image of actor Oscar Issac standing in front of artwork depicting Moon Knight. Reports released a while back indicated that the studio had chosen to tap Issac for the titular role of Moon Knight/Marc Spector, but now the tweet makes it official.
The tweet as posted read:
“WE ARE MOONKNIGHT—Oscar Issac.”
The project is reportedly being in production in Budapest, and we hope to see soon how Isaac will appear in the role of Marc Spector. In the photo attached to the tweet, we only see the top half of Isaac’s head, the artwork backdrop. However, with just this little of a glimpse, fans are getting majorly stoked to see the story of Moon Knight brought to the big screen and the MCU.
The Moon Knight character is a former US marine suffering from a disorder termed dissociative identity. This disorder makes Spector the perfect conduit for Khonshu—the Egyptian moon god. Marc has multiple personalities, each a distinct character unto themselves, leaving Moon Knight to stand out as a truly unique superhero within the overall MCU.
When speaking on Moon Knight, Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige said:
“It’s been a while since we’ve had an action hero who jumps out of buildings and gets into fights. The mental illness is a unique aspect of the program.”
Although Moon Knight will be Isaac’s first step into the MCU, he is no stranger to Marvel. Many will remember his portrayal of Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse for 20th Century Fox in 2016. Star Wars fans will also remember him for his role as Poe Dameron in several of the movies. Then, later this year, Isaac will be part of the ensemble cast of the Dune remake, due out October 1st.
