Everything tastes better when it is wrapped up in bacon or completely smothered with cheese. So, why not cover already tasty foods with both. Earlier this year, the popular American fast food restaurant McDonald’s announced a limited time run of fully loaded french fries covered in cheese and bacon.
Now, that tasty menu item is back just in time for summer. The familiar golden arch restaurant is not the first fast-food chain to introduce bacon and cheese covered fries. The Wendy’s Baconator fries are a similar construction. The dish itself is a take off of a loaded baked potato, and is a side more well known in sports stadiums around the country.
McDonald’s has also been testing the bacon cheese fries since 2017, making them available in markets like Pittsburgh and select regions in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. In 2019, McDonlad’s has been promoting them as a regional menu item in markets in Northern California and Hawaii. However, the fries are likely going to be sticking around on menu across the country, as most menu items tend to when they do well in test markets.

While McDonald’s has not officially announced the return of these cheesy bacon fries, they did have this to say, “I’m afraid I’ll have to provide a cheesy no comment. At this moment, our kitchens are bacon-ing something together. But we’re not yet ready to share the gouda news.”
The new cheesy bacon fries is made from McDonald’s world famous straight cut french fries, which are then topped with a melted cheddar cheese sauce. Finally, applewood smoked bacon bits are sprinkled on top to complete the side dish.
There is actually no official retail price available for the cheesy bacon fries, although the fries were available for around four dollars in those test markets.
