KFC Creates Donut Fried Chicken Sandwich

One of the most viral fast food sensations of 2019 was the Popeye’s chicken sandwich, and popular competitive restaurant chain KFC was not about to be undone by this. Kentucky Fried Chicken, one of the most recognizable fried chicken stores in the world recently announced a brand new sandwich which is sure to get people talking.

KFC has unvieled the donut fried chicken sandwich, which is a piece of fried chicken set between two original glazed donuts, instead of the traditional sandwich bread. The new sandwich will be used in a test market for the fried chicken chain, so it will not be widely available upon its release. It will be available on Sept. 16 for diners in the Norfolk, Virginia area, Richmond, Virginia area, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area for a limited time.

The new fried chicken donut sandwich will also be available as a basket meal, which is a deconstructed version of the new sandwich. The meal will include choices of having one or two donuts, as well as having the chicken fried on the bone or getting chicken tenders. The sandwich itself will have a retail price of $5.99, while the combo meal version will be $7.99.

Customers will also be able to purchase the individual donuts for one dollar each at participating locations. Around forty KFC locations are expected to stock the sandwich, for anyone willing to risk the sugar and carb inducing stupor consuming the sandwich could create.

Chicken and waffles has long been a popular food combination, but KFC is the first to try a chicken and donuts sandwich, although using a donut in place of bread itself it not a new concept in the food world.

It’s unclear how long this fried chicken donut sandwich will be available at participating locations, but if the test markets perform well, the new sandwich could be rolled out nationwide.
