Word has come down from the executives at Warner Brothers that the script for the upcoming Joker and Harley Quinn movie has indeed been completed.
Although 2016’s Suicide Squad was pretty much panned by the critics, the box office takes told a different story—one that the fans wanted more of the characters, namely Joker and Harley Quinn.
Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are confirmed to be reprising the roles they each made famous in 2016’s Suicide Squad. We don’t know much other than they will be returning, as well as the fact that the production is moving along because there is a working viable script penned.
Those who were tapped to pen the script, Ficarra and fellow scriptwriter Requa offered:
“It is great. The whole thing starts with Harley kidnapping Dr. Phil, played by Dr. Phil hopefully. Because she and the Joker are having problems with their relationship.”
The writers went on to say that they feel that there is a sort of mash-up of Bad Santa and This Is Us in their script. The taping into the current This Is Us craze may very well play well into the storyline, given how complex and integral the dynamic between Joker and Harley is.
Couple this with the vulgarness of Bad Santa, and you will see that Joker and Harley have more than a few screws loose—respectively.
Meshing all of this together should make for one wild rollercoaster ride taking the viewers along as we get a look at what Joker and Harley’s idea of love is, and how they work to repair their relationship.
Because this version is intended to be very different than previous comic book takes on the characters, it is sure to stand out on its own merits. Fans should go into the film with an open mind and without any preconceptions because this is not your typical Joker/Harley story.
Not by a long shot.
