While participating in a recent Q&A with members of the New York Film Academy, Marvel head honcho Kevin Fiege admitted that the most powerful hero in the MCU currently is none other than Scarlet Witch.
The character, also known as Wanda Maxioff, is portrayed in the Marvel movies by actress Elizabeth Olson. She joined the MCU when she first appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
She, along with her brother, Pietro Maximoff—aka Quicksilver—portrayed by actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, decided to align themselves with the Avengers in their fight with Ultron.
Both of the siblings had been experiments of Baron Strucker, an agent of Hydra, as he was the one responsible for the twin’s abilities. Unfortunately, Quicksilver met a fatal end. However,
Scarlet Witch went on to appear in three more sequels. She is reportedly also starring alongside Doctor Strange in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Marvel has big plans for the Scarlet Witch, not only with her continuing to be a significant player in the MCU but also with her own limited episode series to be aired exclusively on Disney+. We will also see the return of Vision, portrayed by Paul Bettany, for the series.
Titled WandaVision, the series is slated to air in Spring 2021. Scarlet Witch is in good company, as some of her fellow Avengers will have their own series as well, including Hawkeye, Loki, and The Falcon and Winter Soldier. All of which are reported as being currently in production.
When posed the question “who is the strongest Marvel hero?” as of Avengers: Endgame and Spiderman: Far From Home, Fiege answered:
“If you look at Endgame, Wanda Maximoff was going to kill Thanos. If he hadn’t desperately — that’s as scared as I’ve ever seen Thanos. And if he hadn’t said, ‘Decimate my entire team to get her off of me,’ I think she would’ve done it.”
It is really no surprise that Fiege chose Wanda, as in a comment at SDCC in 2019, he stated that Wanda was more than capable of defeating Thanos in a one-on-one battle.
