Having wrapped up the third phase, with Avengers: Endgame, many fans are wondering if we will ever get the chance to see Chris Evans in his role of Captain American again. Although it has been stated, there are no current future plans to bring Steve Rogers back onto the screen, the actor who portrays Cap says that as far as he is concerned, it is a never say never type of situation.
Although the Cap’s fate was pretty much settled with the ending of Avengers: Endgame, when asked about his iconic role Evans states he isn’t totally against the idea of donning his patriotic armor and joining with his fellow heroes once again.
In a recent interview with his former Avengers co-star Scarlett Johannson, who fought alongside Cap in the guise of Black Widow, Evans articulated it as:
“…it’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either.”
When he was asked how he though Cap could return, Evans said:
“If you’re doing to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. A lot of things would have to come together…it doesn’t feel, at this time, that would be a thing.”
The role of Captain America has taken Evans on a journey of seven movies, not to mention a few well-placed cameos. However, what the other films didn’t have that the fans wanted was for Cap to have his happy ending. And, Avengers: Endgame afforded Cap and the fans just that—living out Peggy Carter’s life with her.
Adding in that Rogers officially passed on the mantle of Captain America to his buddy Sam Wilson, formerly Falcon, Evans feels that to bring Cap back would sour both the happy ending and passing of the torch.
With all this said, the return of Steve Rogers is on the far horizon, at least for now. But, as has proven in the past, anything can happen in the MCU, and that is why fans stay so loyal to the franchise. Captain America may one day return. We will just have to wait it out and see.
