It has been announced by Disney Studios of their intention to reboot the Pirates of the Carribean franchise.
While for some this is exciting news for other, such as Johnny Depp fans this recently announced is very upsetting. The reason is that it has also been announced that the studio is giving Depp the boot. He will not be retained to once again appear at Captain Jack Sparrow in the rebooted version of the new upcoming Pirates movie.
Having played the beloved character Jack Sparrow in the original Pirates movie, as well as the four following sequels, one wonders how this will set with his legion of fans. Because, it is those very fans that made the franchise the success it became and continues to be to this day.
The news that Depp was being given the boot from the new franchise was first confirmed by “Pirates” scriptwriter Stuart Beattie. Beattie stated that Disney Studios was cutting Depp loose, as they get to the business of totally rebooting the franchise.
Depp, who is no stranger to personal drama, appears to have made his final voyage with 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales”, which has been said to be the weakest and worst of the “Pirates” franchise overall. Beattie, speaking to the Daily Mail, confirmed that Depp is definitely out as Jack Sparrow.
Beattie also went on to say:
“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made the character his own, and it’s become the character he is most famous for now. Kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it’s been great for him, it’s been great for us, so I’m just very, very happy about it. I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he has played five times, it’s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospital’s, it’s what he will be remembered for.”
