Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

Here are the ingredients you will need for this recipe:

  • 1 Cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 Cup Dutch Process or Dark Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • 3 Bananas Mashed
  • 1/4 cup Butter, Unsalted
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar Dark Brown suggested but light brown works
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pouch Instant Espresso Powder or 1 tsp coffee extract
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips


Here are the directions that you need to follow in order to complete this recipe:

  1. First, you need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Then get out a bread loaf pan and butter the entire pan. Then set the pan to the side.
  2. Next, in the bowl of a stand mixer, you need to fully combine the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter, oil, and vanilla extract. Use the paddle attachment to mix everything together until it’s fully combined.  Now you want to mix in brown sugar. Stir to combine the brown sugar into the mixture.
  3. Now, you want to sift the baking soda, cocoa powder, salt, and flour into banana mixture.  The sifting removes the clumps from the dry mixture and ensures they will smoothly combine with the rest of the ingredients. Carefully mix all of the ingredients together to combine.
  4. Now, you want to mix in the dark chocolate chips to the bread dough. Be careful not to mix the chocolate chips into the dough, as this risks overmixing the batter. The chips will incorporate more during the pouring and baking stages.  Now, pour the mixture into the prepared bread pan.
  5. Next, sprinkle white chocolate chips across the top to complete the loaf. You can also add additional toppings and spread them across the top as much as you want.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes until toothpick/knife comes out clean when inserted.
  7. Cool in pan for 15-20 minutes before turning out onto a cooling rack.
