With the deaths of two highly prominent individuals in the same week, the current upswing in suicides nationwide is being brought to the forefront of attention. Between the years of 1999 and 2016, every US state has seen a vast increase in suicide rates, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A reported 45,000 suicides were reported in 2016, making suicide the third largest killer just behind Alzheimer’s disease and drug overdose in the US. One thing is for sure, suicide is becoming a very present and clear danger in our nation.
