After the success of The Mandalorian, Disney is continuing to pursue more Star Wars series in addition to more movies that are still in the early stages. While spin-offs for The Mandalorian are still happening, spin-offs to the other Star Wars trilogy are still happening. There had been talks for the longest time since the start of the Disney Star Wars trilogy of jumping back into more adventures for the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi master who rose to infamy during the prequel trilogy and taught Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy. The original plan was to create an Obi-Wan film but that idea has since changed into a limited event series that will air on Disney+.
With the series now heading into production, the full cast list has finally been revealed. Of course, Ewan McGregor will be returning to the role of Obi-Wan which he portrayed in the Star Wars prequel entries of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. Hayden Christensen will also be returning for the role of Anakin Skywalker. The rest of the cast will include Joel Edgerton, Moses Ingram, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie (yes, the co-director of Uncut Gems).
No episode number has been announced but Deborah Chow, having worked on episodes of The Mandalorian, will be directing the series. Executive producers on the series include Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and writer Joby Harold. No word yet on when the show will debut on Disney+.
