Burger King Stops Putting Plastic Toys in Kids Meals

America is known for the multiple fast food restaurants and chains which offer tasty and convenient foods to billions of people around the world. Another great thing about these fast food chains is that they have a kids menu, which usually comes in a colorful box and includes a toy, in addition to it’s over various menu items, as a way to appeal to both kids and adults.

Burger King is one of the major fast food chains which offers a happy meal with a plastic toy inside for children to play with and enjoy. these toys became super popular on their own, sometimes being well-known Disney characters, Pokemon, and many other references to pop culture. However, the burger chain recently announced that the popular plastic toy would no longer be a part of the happy meal, but only in the United Kingdom.

The elimination of a plastic toy in the happy meal is expected to reduce 320 tons of single-use plastic annually as a result, which helps the pledge the nation recently took to reduce its single-use plastic waste. The brand Burger King has also made a similar plastic waste reducing plan, which has a goal to embrace 100 percent reusable, recyclable, and compostable packaging by 2025.

According to the company statement, “Toys donated to Burger King UK’s amnesty bins will be centrally collected before they are put through a recycling process. This will see the toys be separated, sorted, cleaned, chipped and then transformed into play areas and other everyday restaurant items including trays to give them a new lease of life.”

Burger King’s global chief marketing officer Fernando Machado said, “We are a global brand, and the UK market will be leading the way in making this first step towards change, which is part of our wider commitment on reducing plastics.” The toys have been removed from happy meals in the United Kingdom since the middle of September.
