Brendan Fraser To Join The DC Universe In Batgirl Film

As a long-time fan of the actor, it does my heart good to see that Brendan Fraser’s comeback, nay renaissance, continues to move forward at full force.

Primarily known to many moviegoers for the character he portrayed in The Mummy franchise, Fraser has seen his career come back to life over the last few years.  Now, to add to his renewed success, he has added another high-profile role to his resume.

A recent report in Deadline stated that Fraser would be joining the cast of DC’s Batgirl.  Fraser has been cast to portray the villain of the series, alongside the lead actress Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon.  As of this writing, however, the information has not been confirmed.

Also appearing in the film will be J.K. Simmons as Barbara’s father, Commissioner James Gordon.  Many may recall that Simmons was first seen as Gordon in the film Justice League.  The only other currently confirmed member of the cast is Jacob Scipio.

Deadline sources have stated that Fraser is expected to portray the character of Firefly, one of the more obscure villains in the Dark Knight’s gallery of rogues.  Important to note here is that this is still a rumor, and there has been no confirmation as to which role Fraser is portraying.

There is no denying that 2021 keeps getting better and better for Fraser.  He has already been seen in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move, along with having been confirmed as cast in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, along with Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

The superhero-centric film is slated to stream on the HBO Max online service, although no official word has been forthcoming as of yet as to when the film will premiere.

I don’t know about you, but this writer is excited about the possibility of seeing Fraser join the DC film universe.  He has tremendous talent, and I am sure he will more than do the role justice.
