Bird Box 2 Confirmed By Netflix

After proving to be such a hit with its original entry, Bird Box, Netflix has confirmed that Bird Box 2 is, in fact, in development.  However, at this point in time, the details are remaining very secretive.

Josh Malerman, who wrote the novel that the original film was based on, has a sequel that is on schedule to come out later this month.  Many are seeing this as a possible roadmap as to how the follow-up will be presented by the online streaming service.

The book sequel, entitled after the character that Sandra Bullock portrayed in the movie, Malorie, is anticipated to hit shelves around July 21st.  Malerman was asked about Bird Box 2 during a recent interview.  Although he didn’t have much information to provide, he did confirm that the movie sequel was in the works.

“I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development.  Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game.”

As fans of the online streaming service, are well aware, Netflix is a little bit stingy when it comes to offering up information when it comes to their viewing figures.  However, when Bird Box streamed, the service boasted that it was watched by an estimated 26 million people in its first week alone.

To this date, Bird Box has been one of the most popular original films that Netflix has ever produced.  That is not to say that is hasn’t had its controversy, two of which were the “Bird Box challenges,” as well as the use of footage from an actual train crash in the film, which has since removed.

Malerman said that the movie didn’t have any influence on how he chose to write the follow up of Malorie—just that now when he writes the main character, he pictures Sandra Bullock in her place.
