Getting more movement in and rethinking your food and beverage intake is essential if you’re trying to lose weight.
According to registered dietitian and personal trainer Gabbi Berkow, you probably want to avoid reaching for alcohol and soda when you’re thirsty. She explains, “Weight loss ultimately comes down to burning more calories than you eat, so to maximize calories from food, we want to minimize our calories from drinks.”
The majority of beverages lack fiber, which is essential for satiation. In addition to feeling hungry sooner afterward, you’ll get more calories from them since they don’t keep you full.

Get started today with low-cal beverages packed with health benefits. You can lose weight with these RD-approved drinks.
Green Tea
Unsweetened green tea has zero calories and may boost metabolism. It contains caffeine, a fat-burning antioxidant, and catechins, which help facilitate fat burning. You can’t rely on catechin-containing beverages to boost your metabolism while trying to lose weight.
Herbal Tea
It’s a tremendous non-caffeinated break with a bit of flavor in the middle of the day. Tea can have a variety of benefits, depending on the type. For instance, lavender and chamomile teas have calming effects, and peppermint tea has digestive benefits.

Green Juice
Despite green juice’s vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it doesn’t have as much fiber as eating whole vegetables, so you should be cautious about what kind of juice you drink. If you’re aiming to lose weight, green juice can be refreshing and hydrating.
Berkow says, “When selecting a green juice, ensure to get ones that contain only vegetables or are made with one fruit like an apple.”
Kombucha
Meshulam explains, “Kombucha is a fermented tea.” Fermented tea contains health-promoting probiotics as well as antioxidants from the tea leaves. Kombucha naturally contains sugar, so read the label and find those with less than 15 grams per bottle. It can replace alcoholic beverages when served in a fancy glass.
