Avoid These Foods If You Experience Joint Pains

Millions of people in the U.S. are affected by arthritis. One in four adults with arthritis reports experiencing severe joint pain, and half of them have persistent pain.

Studies suggest that if you are experiencing chronic pain, you can ease the pain by doing yoga and stretching exercises.

Amy Shapiro, founder and director of Real Nutrition, says, “Studies have shown beneficial effects of the Mediterranean diet in reducing pain and increasing physical function in people living with rheumatoid arthritis.”

She added, “An example meal would include any fish such as salmon, steamed vegetables such as broccoli or carrots, whole grain rice, and a side salad with an olive oil dressing.”

Dr. Nilanjana Bose, MD, says you need to avoid various pro-inflammatory foods to lessen joint pain. “When you follow a strict healthy diet, the body and immune system are nourished and less inflamed.”

Dr. Bose says, “The patient develops fewer comorbidities because rheumatoid arthritis patients are at higher risk for heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc.”

It Is Better To Avoid These Foods To Get Rid Of Joint Pains.

Sugar: It is better to avoid refined sugar such as sodas, juices, and desserts as they trigger the release of proteins in the body called cytokines which causes inflammation. Instead of these, you can consume fruits that contain natural sweet, chia seeds, legumes, or dates.

Refined Carbs: Avoid eating white rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes containing gluten. Gluten is the natural component of wheat used for making bread and pasta.

Red Meat: Dr. Bose says to avoid red meat, i.e., beef and pork, as they are rich in saturated fats, which may cause cholesterol and inflammation.

Alcohol: Alcohol can enhance the frequency and severity of gout seizures. ‘Gout’ is a common form of inflammatory arthritis that is very painful and usually affects one joint at a time.
