The social media world is still a hazy place for Addison Rae as she attempts to navigate her career. In her current life, her body image is where she feels most at ease.
She told Elle UK, “I feel comfortable with myself and my body now, but that’s something I’ve had to work on and learn how to do.”
It’s even more challenging for a woman to learn to love herself when there are 128 million followers on TikTok and Instagram.
Since she got on Instagram at 11, the 21-year-old has been under pressure to maintain her massive following and fame.
Addison said, “No matter who you are or what you do, there’s going to be negativity. Social media can be toxic, and dealing with it is an uphill battle.”
Rae previously discussed how social media had affected her mental health, telling Glamour UK her body has attracted most of the negativity she faces online.
She explained, “My body is constantly changing, but people have this high standard around body image and say, ‘Oh, you have to look like this to look great or to look hot or to be cool or to be pretty.”
Rae has gained a great deal of confidence from observing the evolution of her style.
She said, “Learning to style my body type and understanding what looks good and feels good on me has been a big thing.”
She continued, “I love a sheer mesh and fishnets layered under a dress. It feels sexy without being too much.”
As inspirations for her fashion, Louisiana native Angelina Jolie and Kate Moss come to mind.
They influence her, although they may not all have the same body types.
She said, “Sexiness comes from within,” as one of the biggest lessons she’s learned. It’s something you project, like an aura — in your personality, in the way you speak or carry yourself.”
