Godfrey Gao, having become the first Asian decent male to become the face Louis Vuitton in 2011, has reportedly passed away at the age of 35.
More recently, Gao is known for his American cinema debut in 2013’s science fiction film “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.”
In addition to his appearance in “The Mortal Instruments,” he has also appeared in a variety of popular Asian films as well as TV Shows. It has been reported that, while in China filming a reality show, the model turned actor was verified to have suffered from a heart attack and subsequently passing.
It was confirmed, while on the set of a Chinese sports reality show, entitled “Chase Me,” Gao was running and then fell. It is believed he fell at the onset of the heart attack that took his life.
Gao was rushed to the local hospital, and after three hours of reported reviving efforts, he was officially pronounced dead. His death was confirmed by his agency in a post they made to Facebook.
Born in Taiwan, Gao was raised in Vancouver, Canada. He once stated that not until he returned to Taiwan in his 20s did he genuinely become bilingual.
He said that English is his first language, and when he first moved back to Taiwan, his use of Mandarin was somewhat awful. But, since then, his Mandarin has improved, and his English has slipped some.
Although, as his career progressed, he was able to garner more and more high-profile modeling clients. However, none were a history-making as the gig he acquired with Louis Vuitton.
Gao admitted in 2016 he enjoyed modeling, however, his one true love has always been sports.
Before his passing, Gao was able to take the opportunity to show his basketball prowess when, in August, he participated in the Jeremy Lin 3df Annual All-Star Game.
