On Valentine’s Day, Chrissy Metz and her partner will be in New York City, but they may not have time for a candlelit dinner at the Empire State Building or a Sleepless in Seattle-style rendezvous. They will be too busy celebrating the release of the children’s book they wrote together on Feb. 14.
The picture book, When I Talk to God, I Talk About You, features serene illustrations by Lisa Fields that introduce young readers to prayer and spirituality. Metz, nominated for an Emmy for her role as Kate Pearson in This Is Us, credits her grandmother with instilling in her a strong faith.

Metz tells Yahoo Life, “It’s been my saving grace in many situations, pursuing ambitious goals and dreams and doing it for the right reasons. She and Collins celebrated three years of dating in May and met over those shared values during their home-bound courtship during the pandemic’s peak.”
As the author of the 2018 New York Times best-selling memoir, This Is Me: Loving the Person You Are Today, Metz knew she wanted this picture book to empower and affirm young readers. Despite calling herself a “dog mom” to a Mabel poodle, Metz has no children. While writing a book for kids, she relied on her background as a (pre-Hollywood) preschool teacher and aunt to nine nieces ranging in age from almost 3 to 24.

She said, “When I was a preschool teacher, circle time reading was always my favorite part of the day. Besides cognitive development, books contribute to self-esteem, self-confidence, social awareness, and empathy. Empathy is one of the most valuable ways we can walk through life.”
Metz splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville. It’s not uncommon for the TV star to be eager for the following excellent acting project, but she is focusing on her music now and hopes to release a full-length country music album soon.
