Solving Banana Problems
We frequently buy a bunch that isn’t entirely ripe, so there is a solution if you want it ripe as soon as possible. Cover the ends or stems of the bunch in saran wrap to keep the bananas fresher longer. Better still, separate each banana. Both methods prevent ethylene gases from escaping the stem, causing the fruit to ripen too quickly.
Here’s another step: with a paper bag, you can change the color of a banana from green to yellow. Increased ethylene gas helps fruit mature faster when placed into the bag.
