Cicely Tyson – $10 Million
Cicely Tyson was a compelling presence in cinema and on stage that audiences and critics have found difficult to ignore. It spanned seven incredible decades, refusing to let the politics or preconceptions of the time stop her from playing the character with passion and devotion. Tyson struggled to get stable work in cinema and television because she was determined to portraying only uplifting images of Black women.
Tyson would continuously play formidable African American women throughout her career. She received the NAACP’s Spingarn Medal in 2010. Her effort was so significant that she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honor, in 2016.
