Every day we do things that damage our skin, from forgetting to wear sunscreen and sleeping in our makeup to simply staying up way too late. With summer coming, many companies will start to market their so-called “miracle cures” for skin health. While some of these products do help, there are also a few simple tricks to treat your skin better that you can start doing right now.
Stop Sleeping In Makeup
One of the easiest steps to take for healthier skin is to stop sleeping in your makeup. After a long day at work, making dinner and relaxing are probably the only things you’ll think about. But before you dive into that comfortable bed, take a minute to wipe off your makeup. Sleeping in makeup can age your skin and prevent it from recovering overnight.
Apply That Sunscreen
Chances are, you’re pretty good about applying sunscreen before a day at the beach, or hiking with friends. But in reality, you should be using sunscreen on a daily basis, because we expose our skin to the sun’s harmful rays on a daily basis. To reverse the signs of aging, apply a 15 SPF or higher sunscreen daily. Many companies offer a light SPF lotion you can apply in the morning after you wash your face.
Turn Down The Shower Temperature
A hot, steamy shower might seem like the perfect way to wake up in the morning or relax after a long day at work. Your skin doesn’t agree. Dermatologist Dr. Arielle Kauvar explained that, while these hot showers feel good “they’re guaranteed to turn your skin into a dry, flaky mess.” To avoid this outcome, turn the temperature down just a little bit.
There are plenty of ways to protect your skin on a daily basis. These three simple tricks will help your skin feel softer and more refreshed. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
