Most Popular Horror Movies By State

Now deep into the Halloween season, you can bet there’s plenty of streaming viewers cracking open their subscriptions and rental services to seek out their favorite scary movies. Be it slashers, exploitation, psychological horror, giddy gore romps, or just a good old-fashioned ghost story, horror movies are certainly going to be top contenders for streamers this October. But which one is watched the most in your state?

Streaming Observer has compiled the data to find out which horror movie is a favorite in each state. Here’s how they did it:

Using data from Rotten Tomatoes, proprietary Amazon MTurk surveying, and other public sources, we compiled a list of the most popular horror movies of all time. Then, we partnered with Mindnet Analytics and used Google Trends data to determine which horror movie each state was most obsessed with relative to other states.

Take a gander at the full list below and take note of how some states tend to favor horror films shot in their own counties. You may also be surprised to learn that the most common films between states were “Silence of the Lambs” and “Shaun of the Dead.”
