After a nationwide contest in August, M&M’s announced that the winning flavor was Crunchy Mint. Then, they made another announcement that will have Nutella fans doing cartwheels. That is right, Hazelnut Spread Nutella M&M’s will actually soon be a thing.
Filled with a creamy, oh so nutty filling and coated in milk chocolate, with the iconic crunchy outer shell, these Hazelnut Spread M&M’s are sure to thrill any Nutella fan.
The fact that M&M’s an icon in its own right is now taking on another group of foodies with the Nutella brand only goes to show how much the world of candies as we know it is ever changing and evolving.
Keep in mind, Nutella is one of the most popular brands of spreads in the world, with the French alone reportedly eating over 100 million jars of the spread each and every year. With this number of fans of the spread, think of what could happen when you fuse it with the continually popular M&M’s candies.
Senior brand director Allison Miazga-Bedrick stated:
“We’re thrilled to deliver this new flavor with color and fun, in a way that only M&M’s can. The industry is changing and consumer tastes are evolving. We’re continuing to recognize and anticipate demand.”
Now, with all this said, it is worth noting that the filling will not be actual Nutella spread. However, that does not seem to dissuade the early results from taste testers, as they are reported to have stated:
“They are very Nutella-esque. That familiar nutty flavor hits you almost immediately—perhaps packing even more of a hazelnut punch than the actual stuff.”
Although the newest addition to the M&M’s lineup is great news for Nutella lovers, the bad news is that they aren’t planned to hit the shelves until April 2019.
