Jennifer Aniston is heading to Washington. The actress has signed on to appear as the first female president in a new comedy film for Netflix, and Aniston is also a producer on the project. The film is entitled “First Ladies,” and Aniston takes the role of POTUS, while comedian Tig Notaro will play FLOTUS.
Netflix recently announced the groundbreaking news and revealed that the characters names will be Beverly and Kasey Nicholson. A description of the film includes the idea that “behind every great woman… is another great woman.”
Notaro is also expected to write the script with her wife Stephanie Allynne (“One Mississippi”) and serve as a producer as well. The comedian’s latest comedy special Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here will release on Netflix May 22. This film expands Notaro’s working relationship with Netflix, as she is also slated to direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming comedy special on the streaming service.
Additional producers on the film include Adam McKay, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Betsy Koch for Gloria Sanchez Productions, while Chris Henchy will be an executive producer. There is currently no word on when this new comedy film is expected to drop on Netflix or any other casting decisions or filming locations.
Aniston, who is widely known for her breakout performance as Rachel Green on the sitcom “Friends,” is one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, with dozens of movies and commercials under her belt. Her last project was “The Yellow Birds,” a war drama directed by Alexandre Moors that opened the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Notaro is a stand-up comic and actress, who is widely known for her deadpan comedy. Last month it was announced that Notaro will appear in the second season of “Star Trek Discovery” playing the role of Chief Engineer Denise Reno on the U.S.S Hiawatha.
