Here’s What Mama June Did To Lose All That Weight

June “Mama June” Shannon, best known for her reality show appearances on Toddlers and Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, has shocked the world with her recent weight loss transformation. Her new series on WE tv — Mama June: From Not to Hot — reveals exactly how she went from 460 pounds to a size four within a year.

For starters, Shannon and her family cut out sugary soft drinks after a scare with a car accident involving her daughters, Pumpkin and Alana (“Honey Boo Boo”). Instead of her usual three or four Mountain Dew Code Reds per day, the family drinks fruit-sweetened water now.

“For people who don’t like to drink water by itself, what we’ve done is we’ve thrown some strawberries and kiwi in there,” said Shannon’s trainer, Kenya Crooks. “It’s really good, and it helps you get it down a whole lot faster.”

The family has also swapped chips and junk food healthier alternatives, like dried apple chips or grapes. “Grapes are probably my favorite thing,” Shannon said, but her daughters prefer watermelon.

Crooks is also a big advocate of watermelon, especially to help curb dessert cravings. “The cool thing about watermelon is that it’s basically 92 percent liquid,” the trainer said. “It satisfies your sweet tooth, but you can also pee-pee that thing right out!”

Though the reality star has gotten a lot of attention for her new bod, she insists that her transformation has helped her get closer to her true self.

“It makes me feel really good to show other people this is what I’ve always thought of myself and that my inside hadn’t changed, like my giving and outgoing and loving personality that was there when I was there,” she said. “It’s just a little bit more out there… I feel like [I’m] becoming the person on the outside that I always felt like [I was] on the inside.”
